my work

vdlo is the signature of Contemporary South African artist, Leonie van der Loo.

Her portrait studies depict Unity Consciousness and Multi-Dimensional awareness through exhibited instances of individual psyches, captured in fractions of time and space.

She's particularly concerned with the distribution of form on the pictorial plane – obstinately depicting the awareness of an advanced unity.

Her distinctive approach to the application of her medium on the surface of her canvas, as well as her use of colour and lack thereof, developed over a period of time, together with her understanding of her content. She utilizes this diversity in mark making and use of colour to support her fascination with Unity Consciousness.

my background

I studied Fine Arts at Pretoria in 1987 under well acclaimed artists like Carl Jeppe and Gunther van der Reis and completed my studies in Interior Design. I work as a Graphic Designer for 10 years before exploring the creative side of Architecture and construction for the next 7 years. I also obtained my diploma and registration as an Architectural Draughts person during this time. The last few years, I moved my attention to IT and the creative side of web development, which I'm still doing when I'm not painting.

I have had exhibitions, amongst other, at Vally Art Studios (Roodepoort), Hydepark Art Gallery (Hyde Park), Pink Kerk Gallery (Melville) and Andre Naudé Gallery (Pretoria).

I was one of the finalists, exhibiting at the Sasol New Signature Art Exhibition in 2009.

my view

I thank offerings of placate existence on top of my own mountain, and the wondering down and up another’s from time to time, just to come back to my own as it is meant to be.

I see all things as invisibly entwined experiences of which the effects are infinitely fascinating and I enjoy gliding in silence above it all and inhaling the kaleidoscope. I rejoice the endless facets of my existence.
